Wandering the “white city” of Lisbon, Portugal, it’s questionable why the chosen nick-name for this city is not “hilly maze”. The Elevador de Santa Justa offered an alternative to the 45 metre climb from the lower streets of Baixa Pombaline to the Carmo Square. The adventure to the top of this lift began here, gazing up at the old architecture and consisted of a winding, lost, beautiful tour around Lisbon. On second attempt, determined not to take the “easy way” with a ride on the lift, I found the way up through the hills to Carmo Square to view the city from atop this historic masterpiece.
